Moving with Pets - Where to Begin?

Maybe you've recently accepted a new job overseas. Or maybe you finally are getting to retire at your summer home. Maybe you've just decided it's time for a change. Whoever you are, you know you want to move and you want to move your pets.

The good news is: You're not alone!

Thousands of people move worldwide with their pets each year. Not everyone can afford a professional pet relocation company, but if you have the time, motivation and resources, you can relocate your pet on your own! That's where the MyPetMove community comes in. You can count on the Members here to give you the resources you need to help research, plan and arrange your pet's move. The MyPetMove Members will also be your safety net and helping hand throughout the process of moving your pet!

And once you're settled into your new home with your pets, don't forget to join our Community to share your experiences with others, just like you!

Step One: By Air or By Ground?

The first step in your move should be to determine how your pet will get from Point A to Point B. For people moving shorter distances, this might be researching ground transportation options. For moves to more far-away locales, you'll need to find the right airline to get your pet to your new home safely and comfortably.

Ground
For researching your pet's move by ground, check out our Ground Transportation Advice & Options page, and get advice from other road-trippers in our Ground Transportation Forums!

Air
Check out our Airline Information page for details on the best "pet-friendly" airlines, and also learn about others' experiences in the Four-Legged-Friendly Airlines Forum!

Step Two: Buying and Preparing the Travel Crate

The next step, once you know you're moving your pet, is to get your pet's travel crate and start getting him used to it!

Check out our Travel Crates page for more information!

Step Three: Research Your Destination!

Whether you're headed overseas or down the road, it's a good idea to research the local requirements for keeping pets in your new area. You might consider posting a question about your new destination in our Forums or perhaps checking out our Resources page to read up on your destination's import requirements.
