My Pet Move

See. Spot. Move.

Hello there!
We moved to Calgary, Canada, 2 months ago, from Malaga, Spain. We left our beautiful German Shepherd and our four moggies, (all with stories to make your heart melt), isafe and sound in Spain with out local vet, whilst we searched for somewhere suitable for us all to live here in Canada. Now, we have found somewhere, we are desperate to get them all here with us. BUT, it is sooooooo expensive!! We cannot afford to go with the local Spanish pet relocator, their prices seemed to have escalated since we last spoke with them.....so, we are looking into how we can organise the move ourselves. Can anyone out there help us? Please??
Thank you so much in advance,
Sam, Gareth and Ben

Hi Sam,
You can certainly do this on your own, but it will be difficult from Canada, and you'll probably need someone in Spain's assistance. Someone will still need to arrange an airline to take the pets, or travel with the pets to Canada. Then you will need to make sure they get all their export health paperwork in advance. It is pretty simple to get into Canada with pets -- they need rabies vaccination and a current health certificate.
Good luck!
Thank you for your encouragement! We have a vet in Spain to help us and get them all to the airport...Can you recommend any airlines that will transfer them?? Also, does there have to be a person to travel with them....we have been thinking that even to pay for a return ticket for a family member might be cheaper than using an agent....any thoughts??
Thanks so much again,
Sam
I can't be certain, but you might see if Air Canada or KLM Airlines will fly pets from Spain to Canada. Yes, it would be much cheaper for you to purchase a plane ticket for a person and have that person accompany them than hire an agent to ship them back as cargo.
Thanks for this....it is reassuring to know somebody else is on our wave length. We are going to enquire via Lufthansa, as Matt (below) has suggested.......keep you posted! :-)
Hello Sam, I recently completed move from Malaga to Calgary using Lufthansa and it was a breeze! Remember the right paperwork and make sure each animal has the right size kennel.

Good Luck!
Thank you!! There is a silver lining after all then? Did you fly with them? was it a direct flight?? We have been warned against landing in Toronto - have you had any experience of this? Sorry, so many questions! If you are here in Calgary, maybe I could give you a call and have more of a chat...is that permitted via this site? It is so good to know someone has found a way....we were starting to think we were the only ones! The original quote we had back in spain has almost doubled and we are getting desperate.....we really cannot afford to line somebody elses pocket if we can pit the hard work in ourselves.....sure you know what I mean. Talk soon? Sam.
i am also having this problem...i left my baby shih tzu in the philippines and i am here in toronto. my brother can't take him to toronto and i have no choice but to hire an agent to accompany my pet. but i dont know any pet relocator agents in the philippines
Abigail, PetRelocation.com can help you with your Shih Tzu's move out of the Philippines. Usually their pricing for international moves starts at about $2500 USD for a small dog.
Hope this helps!
Sam, sometimes members put their email addresses on their profile pages-- you might try emailing Matt directly and see what you can find out! This site is all about helping people connect.
Thanks for interacting on My Pet Move!
Hey!
We don't recommend flying your pets on your own. Every so called "small detail" can become a BIG issue at the end at the Airport. How many pets flight agencies did you check?
You can be in contact with AnimalAirways (www.animalairways.com) and you would get the help that you need.
Animal Airways' professional team includes: Veterinarians, customer support professionals and trained pet couriers, that innovate and developed unique products and services that promises to ease pet travel matters for millions of families with pets who travel internationally.
After all... it must be done properly
One more Email to send... and you might be surprised....
