Moving 5 dogs and 3 cats to a country home

Moving my pets has been arranged. My only question is how will the animals adapt to a new place in essentially the same environment? I will be moving from one rural area to another, about 10 miles away. The house and garden are not fenced. How long will it take for the animals to learn that this will be their new home? Can I let my dogs roam free from the beginning? How long do I need to keep the cats locked up inside? All my pets have been allowed to roam free and my man fear is that they might want to go back to the old house.
