Need a Cheaper Airline!

Hello! I am new to this group and need some informed help from somebody that has already moved their pets from the US to the UK. My husband is in the military and we are leaving for the UK on February 9, but because of the PETS process to get our pets there, they will not be following until mid-April.

Our 70 lb. Rhodesian Ridgeback, Mila, will be flying out of Phoenix, AZ and our two cats, Max and Indy, will be flying out of Tucson, AZ. We were told that the only option for flying them into the UK was on Continental cargo. I called Continental and they quoted me about $3,000 to fly all three pets and get them through customs. There has to be a less expensive option! I've heard of many people flying their pets over for less than $500.

Has anyone does this and does anyone have any suggestions for me?!?! Thank you!!!

Hi Tara,

Hate to break the news to you. The quote that the Continnental gave you for 3 pets is quiet cheap already. Since we can only fly British airway because of the breed (Shih Tzu) that we have, the ticket for Chunky one-way is $1384, including custom clearance and the transportation paper works fees for the airline. Don't forget about the taxes in both countries.... Try contact Virgin Atlantic, I know this is another UK government approved airline to ship your pets from the US. Do you know if you can get "reimbrusement" from the US government? Because they are considered as "part of your family" too. That's what my husband's company said to us when he asked if they would pay for the airline ticket for Chunky.

Tara: My husband and I are also on a military PCS to the Untied Kingdom from Georgia. Have you found out anymore information? We are here already and I have to head back in April to get them. How should I go about this. Does anyone know if any flights out of Atlanta take pets?

If you are taking your pets and will only be out of the country for a short time, you may want to try one of the military foster pet programs here, versus spending the money. Yes, 3,000.00 is cheap for 3 pets OR you can find someone going your way and have the pets travel as their 'accompanied' cargo in April, and the fee may be less, but not by much. Don't forget, it's just as high to send them back.

There are other countries that are cheaper, so you could ship to another country then later ship to the UK.
