If you already moved...Where did you move to?
Vienna Austria
Have you moved your pet(s) before?
Yes
If you've moved your pet, describe your move (from where to where, the challenges you faced, new places you've found, how your pets fared, airlines you used, etc.)
Once, we packed the car up and drove from my home in the Boston area all the way to MB Canada. We had 0 problems at the border but it seems we should have had 1 but as a result of us not having one we are having one now.

We stayed at crappy little cheap motels along the way. Some were ok, atleast clean others.... were really gross. Watch out on road trips of this kind for skanky hotels! We had the dogs and cats out in the very late evenings with us in our room each night and we would all of us wsnuggle up to sleep. Boo the cockatoo had a smaller traveling cage and would come out to cuddle a bit in the car and at night before he would get put to bed. We would stop several times a day to give water to Yoda in his crate, and Ms. P, on my lap.... And every evening we would throw out the cat box the cats used in their crate and put in a new one. It took us about 5 days to reach MB from boston. No one enjoyed the trip but everyone arrived peacefully and safely and reasonably comfortably and all was well till we had to leave MB.

We have 2 beautiful dogs a maltese and a border collie black lab cross. Both currently in care with someone else till they can be moved here to Vienna. 2 cats, back in the boston area being cared for till we can get them over seas to Austria. And 1 cockatoo, trapped north of the border in Canada as a result of our lack of problems crossing with him through the niagra falls border crossing.

We spent *MONTHS* calling people, looking online trying to get information to move my beloved Goffin cockatoo properly. We finally thought we were fine. They didn't even look at our paper work. Which was apparently incomplete as far as getting him *out* of the usa goes. This is a sticky point one other pet owners *MUST* watch out for. They are NOT forthcoming with this information they are not clear it is extremely difficult as i said we tried for almost ayear to find out just how to do it and we worked on it like dogs. And in the end, we had all we needed to *ENTER* Canada with him. What we didn't know because no one told us and there was nothing clear or even mention of this fact, is that we needed to have paper work to take him *OUT* of the usa. Be VERY careful!!! Now i amn struggling with bureaucratic BS to get my *son* from Canada either through the USA or to Austria via Canada and then maybe eventually back to the usa or elsewhere depending where my husband's job takes us next.

So far i have been informed i comitted a federal crime. My reply was "If i have broken a law i am extremely sorry but i searched for this information high and low for a year found nothing about it anywhere and thought i had all my ducks in a row. I didn't know any better and if you want me to pay a few hundred dollars as a fine i am more than happy to do so. so long as this can be straightened out so i can be with my bird again as soon as possible.," I was told I would have a minimum of a 20 thousand dollar fine for their lack of posting the proper information anywhere it could be located by a rational person, or of even mentioning it anywhere a rational person could find so that they would then know to look for it. And that is apparently best case scenario. So we have not tried to bring him back to the usa and we are working on the issue. So i say to all those out there watch out!!!
If you're thinking of or planning on moving your pet, when are you planning on moving?
ASAP I want them with me here in Austria as immediately as possible

Moving To Austria

So far i have relocated with my husband the 'kids' (all of them) are in very good hands. We have to hire someone to bring them over and figure out all the details. So far i am dieing here without them . I miss them. Advice though, it is best to relocate or to have an established living space to bring them home to when they arrive. Because if you are still living in some hotel somewhere right after arrival then they have to in a week or a month or whenever you find your new place, that is some… Continue

Hi Jadefire,
Sorry to hear you had so many problems with your cockatoo. Was he CITES and did you not obtain the CITES export/import permits for him? We heard a similar thing from someone who did not get a permit for their turtle, and crossed into Canada without any problem. They were not able to bring the turtle back.
